This book was very strange, but it worked. How would history have changed if Hillary never married Bill? Sittenfeld pulled it off. #ReadingUSA #Arkansas

Great story about the reality of college life - not all parties and sunshine - told with compassion, generosity and insight to a range of characters - students, RAs, administrators, professors. Its about how these people meet, interact (or not) and how no one can hide from their true self even when its painful.
“I think a friend is someone who helps you change for the better. And whether you see them once a day or once a year, if it's a true friend, it doesn't matter.”
The Lions of Little Rock is a strong classroom text for exploring civil rights, friendship, and moral courage. It supports lessons on segregation, activism, and character development, while encouraging meaningful discussion. Teachers can use it to build empathy, deepen historical understanding, and connect literacy skills with social-emotional learning.
The Lions of Little Rock offers a powerful, heartfelt look at friendship and courage during school integration in 1958. Levine‘s writing is clear, engaging, and emotionally rich. The story presents complex social issues in an accessible way for young readers, using vivid language that brings Marlee‘s journey and the era‘s tensions to life.

I went into this book thinking it might be a more personal deep dive into the hidden abuses revealed in the shiny happy people documentary. It was more about Jill talking about how uncomfortable it was to be on camera all the time, the double standard of how her brother was treated by her father versus how she was treated, and later financial abuse. I‘m glad Jill found her way out of the fundamentalist stranglehold, but I think she‘s still in⬇️

I loved the setting. It was rich & atmospheric, the kind of place that stays with you.The blend of historical fiction and mystical realism was intriguing, though I found myself wishing for more of the historical side. The time travel element made the story less believable for me,and at times there seemed to be too many characters to keep track of. The authors writing is engaging & evocative,& the novel offered a unique, imaginative reading experience

A Lack of Temperance was my pick for #thematiccozies August travel theme because the main character is a traveling secretary! She goes to Arkansas to work for the head of the temperance society in this first book in the series. It was a little boring, but I‘d still try the next one!

Remnants of the earlier seasons of Shameless and “The Night Always Comes.” It was engaging, but the third person POV felt like I was just watching Emily's story from afar, instead of being in her head. Dark, disappointing, and strange.
