Pickpick

People wander through the snow in despair; a strange bird accosts two fur-coated gentlemen; random objects fall from the sky; an orphan child freezes to death by the roadside; vague figures lurk at the peripheries; there is no narrative, nor any explanation other than those the reader willfully imposes or has unwillingly evoked.
Yes, it's Edward Gorey 🪦

bibliothecarivs Sounds about right. I love Gorey but haven't read this one. 10h

Merry Christmas morning!
A couple of quick reads before the rest of my family gets up! Contrasting views of the season.
Thomas's "A Child's Christmas in Wales" is a lovely nostalgic look back at an era lost to time, if not yet to memory.
Gorey's "The Iron Tonic" is typically macabre and spooky, with a cutting edge of bleak humour.
Cold and cosy ☃️ - Cold and chilly ❄

"The light is fading from the day.
The rest is darkness and dismay."

Edward Gorey: cheerful as ever!
