Another week, another Shute :)
I think it's the simple prose, describing simple lives that hooks me.
One of the advantages of waking so damn early is that I can read for ages before getting up.

Still digging through my dad's old books and discovered this 1960 book of the month club edition of the last Nevil Shute novel. I was excited, because I've had this on my need to read list for a couple of years. I love A Town Like Alice. I don't remember ever seeing this one in our little home library. It must have been hidden by the piles of National Geographic magazines that my dad insisted on keeping!
I read this again after about 40 years and really enjoyed the story of a quiet man taken completely out of his usual life. Well worth a read.
