Based on real people. It's 1582. Martin, an accused seditionist narrowly escapes the pyre and finds safety with Nicolas's family. Martin admits that his books are banned, but Nicolas can't resist them. He reads them to Catherine, his love. When caught with one of the books, they learn their true enemy is the man charged with saving their souls.
