An interesting book. I didn‘t conntect with any of the protagonists, but kids being made influencers by their parents is a subject I never really thought about. This book threw me into googling a lot of stuff. It‘s a fascinating but sad world.

I couldn‘t put this book down once I started - both the story of the missing girl and the disturbing world of parents who put their kids on social media were hard to look away from. This definitely makes me want to read more books by the author.
Count me as another fan of this fictional but all-too-real look at the effect of filming and exposure on social media on kids translated from French.
Melanie has her dream job filming a family vlog on YouTube with unboxing videos and other popular content. When her daughter is kidnapped, it causes a rift that exposes alliances and problems among them. I love that de Vigan goes years into the future to look in on long-term consequences.
A fast, page-turning literary read with in depth characters & important subjects (social media, mom influencer culture and the effects it has on the kids ?). I thought both Mélanie and Clara were fascinating characters & the juxtaposition between them was written perfectly - one lives their life for social media, the other rejects it. It packs a lot of social commentary & psychology of the characters into a very enthralling novel.
Ooh, there was a lot to unpack in this one. I appreciate that Mélanie was understandable without her actions being justified or excused, and I thought Clara's journey to becoming a cop was fascinating. And Good Lord, Kimmy and Sammy could fill a whole 'nother book on their own! A chilling look at a potential near future. #contemporaryfiction
What a sad book. All about a family of internet influencers, from their young daughter‘s kidnapping, to her adulthood and their broken family. Certainly many warnings for us all.
This was *soclose* to a 5-star read for me. Had it ended before the time jump, it would have been. What came after the time jump was interesting, from a “let‘s see the fallout” perspective but it was a bit heavy-handed. Before that, though? This was a total page turner and I didn‘t want to put the book down!
