Anne must make a terrible choice: betray her only child or risk her familys securityand her very life. Present Day: When her dreams of becoming a musician are shattered, Lucy takes refuge in her familys ancestral home in Oxfordshire. Everyone knows it was originally home to the notorious gunpowder plotter Robert Catesby. As Lucy spends more time in the beautiful winter garden that Robert made, she starts to have strange visions of a woman in Tudor dress, terrified and facing a heartbreaking dilemma. As Lucy's and Annes stories converge, a shared secret that has echoed through the centuries separating them will change Lucys life forever

This book is a nice mix of mystery, a sweet little romance, historical fiction and a ghost story. The narrative travels between the present day and Tudor England. It was an easy read and I was entertained. This is a new author for me and I would check her other books out for sure.

I enjoyed this one. The author is new to me, and I‘ll be checking out her other works. The historical component was new to me, so I enjoyed learning about the Gunpowder Plot in Tudor England. I wasn‘t too fond of the modern day plot line, because I found that storyline not as exciting. But if you like historical fiction—you should enjoy this one! ✨Thanks to The Niche Reader for this #ARC #thenichereader

ravenlee Such a coincidence - I‘ve been talking with @jenniferw88 about the review she just posted for a history of the Gunpowder Plot, which I‘ve been reading about in The Year of Lear. Weird to see so much about something, all at once, that I knew so little about. 2y
MoonWitch94 @ravenlee Such a coincidence! I was also watching an episode of The Crown tonight that mentioned it as well. I think I will be looking into more books about it. 2y

Another book by this author I loved. Good backstory building up to the Gunpowder Plot in 1605, and ghostly element to the current timeline. Can they heal the ghost‘s pain and reveal The Winter Garden.

Very engaging book with some great characters and events. Quite sad in places.

4th book finished for #NovelNovember

Starting a new book that has both a current day slant and the story for one family leading up to the Gunpowder Plot. In the current time the land is being excavated to see if they can find a hidden Tudor Garden. Nicola Cornick usually writes a good historical fiction book.

This was published at the mend of last month.
