What a great way to put yourself in the shoes of another! This book is about prison relationships, in several different forms. The central couple are a man incarcerated and a woman, Jo, on the “outside”. They met through a prison pen pal program and fell in love. They married in the prison. Another couple met in prison and are housed near each other. It‘s amazing what each of these couples has gone through. A fascinating read!

vivastory This sounds intriguing. Adding to my tbr. America's justice system has been on my mind a lot the past week or so bc of this unreal story from my state:

This is a fascinating book. Greenwood chronicles the experiences of couples who become romantically involved when on member of the couple is currently in prison. She pushes back against the stereotypes and assumptions that are made about the people who enter into a relationship with someone in prison, and shows the lives of those who pursue a relationship against a system that is not particularly conducive to maintaining relationships.

Erinreadsthebooks I really enjoyed this one, too! 3y

My first #goodreadsgiveaway win was a success. This is exactly how I like my nonfiction: informative and interesting. Greenwood takes the reader along on her journey as she meets a handful of couples who are working diligently to overcome the effects the prison system has on their relationships. Fascinating stuff!

The riveting account of five couples that are currently living out their relationships as one or both members of their union are incarcerated. Greenwood chose to focus on couples who met during incarceration, most of whom met through prison pen pal programs. It was enlightening to read about how these relationships evolved. Bennie and Jo‘s story was central, and pictured is a clip of their wedding from the documentary Met While Incarcerated.
