The breathtaking children's debut from acclaimed nature writer and Costa Award-shortlisted novelist, Melissa Harrison - a tale of the rich, wild world and all its wonder. Three tiny, ancient beings - Moss, Burnet and Cumulus, once revered as Guardians of the Wild World - wake from winter hibernation in their beloved ash tree home. When it is destroyed, they set off on an adventure to find more of their kind, a journey which takes them first into the deep countryside and then the heart of a city. Helped along the way by birds and animals, the trio search for a way to survive and thrive in a precious yet disappearing world ...

3/5 stars
This book is split into three parts, the first was great and had me thinking this would be ranked higher. The second was so so boring and had me thinking this would be 2 stars, the third saved it. It was overall very cute and had some great lessons for young people!

A simple children's tale. I was looking forward to it, but it fell a little flat for me personally. It was heavy on dialogue while the story felt empty and without a real purpose. I found myself skimming quickly large portions to get on with the story. I eventually switched to audiobook for the last couple chapters & felt it was much better suited as a casual but happy background read. Overall I give it a 3/5 ⭐️! Not awful, just simple & pleasant.
