Finding Ashley
Finding Ashley: A Novel | Danielle Steel
5 posts | 6 read
"The sun beamed down on Melissa Henderson's shining dark hair, pinned up on her head in a loose knot, as sweat ran down her face, and the muscles in her long, lithe arms were taut with effort as she worked. She was lost in concentration, sanding a door of the house in the Berkshire Mountains in Massachusetts that had been her salvation. She had bought it four years before. It had been weather-beaten, shabby and in serious need of repair when she found it. No one had lived there for over forty years, and the house creaked so badly when she walked through it, she thought the floorboards might give way. She'd only been in the house for twenty minutes when she turned to the realtor and the rep from the bank who were showing it to her, and said in a low, sure voice, "I'll take it." She knew she was home the minute she walked into the once beautiful, hundred-year-old Victorian home. It had ten acres around it, with orchards, enormous old trees, and a stream running through the property in the foothills of the Berkshire Mountains. The deal closed in sixty days, and she'd been hard at work ever since. It had almost become an obsession as she brought the house back to life, and came alive herself. It was her great love and the focus of every day"--

Only read this book due to recommendation of my Mom. Nope. Danielle Steele is not a good writer any more. She repeats and tells, but she does not draw a person in. Did not finish. Looked ar last couple of pages and I can tell you how the book went without reading it.

Also the cover bugs me. It is a young girl but the main character gave her up as a baby and found her at 33. Does not fit.

BookishMarginalia That cover would bug me too. 3y

More than anything else the absolute repetitiveness of the backstory is awful. Readers have to suffer through the rehashing of giving up the child, finding the child, etc etc with each new character introduced adding a few details along the way. I felt like reading a nearly 300 page version of The House That Jack Built. Maybe D.S.' earlier work wasn't as repetitive, but this book surely won't have me coming back for more. ↩️

MaggieCarr The plot drew me in, finding a child you've been forced to give up for adoption but it was a let down very early on. The story arc peeked way too quick, I mean she finds and starts a relationship with this now grown child in the first few chapters leaving readers to wonder what else could happen in the story. Throwing in current event issues felt like a "I need to up my word count" rather than an intentional part of the original storyline even ↩️ 3y

Finding Ashley by Daniel steel follows the story of two sisters .. One is a Best selling author and the other is a quiet and sedate nun. But both have vastly different but equally tragic stories dating back to their teens and young adulthood. After a wildfire threatens Melissa's home, had he reaches out and the sisters begin their journey of reconnection. Along the journey, family secrets are revealed, sibling ties are (cont in comments)...

TheHeartlandBookFairy are strengthened, self-discoveries are made, and what was once thought impossible turns out to be possible. Written in classic Danielle Steel style, This poignant and touching book is unputdownable!

Danielle Steele is 73. I thought she was way older based on her body of work.

Gissy Impressive! 4y
MamaGina I was in elementary school when her first book came out, sixth grade maybe? I‘m 58 now, she‘s been a bestselling author for a VERY long time! 4y
