Mehso-so

This book was a big fat “meh”. It, especially the portions about his early life, were WAY too long. He spends like 3 chapters talking about some girl he pined after in college but never dated. The parts about the Brewpub were interesting to me, although I think he just got lucky. His politics are quite a bit right of where I fall as well. #readthecandidates

Has anyone listened to this audiobook? I usually like when authors narrate their own memoirs.. but this is a case where he probably shouldn‘t have.. he admits to being mildly dyslexic, and there are so many random pauses.. and he switches between two pronunciations of his own Brewpub? The story is picking up a little now but this one is not winning awards so far. #readthecandidates

BarbaraTheBibliophage I‘m not a big fan of author narration, unless they have a show business background. (Alan Cumming or Trevor Noah, for example.) So your comment about Hickenlooper doesn‘t surprise me. I thought Kamala Harris had some odd rhythms in her book too. 6y

Next listen for #readthecandidates. Don‘t know a thing about this guy. I‘m only on the 2nd chapter but so far I‘m finding his writing style a bit confusing.. he jumped back and forth in time (and topic!) like 10 times in a few paragraphs.. but maybe that‘s just because it was the intro portion. But he is a Broncos fan, so that‘s a plus in my book!

BarbaraTheBibliophage Y‘know, maybe if he‘s such a success he should have paid for a better editor. Or listened more to the editor‘s suggestions. Sounds too much like 45 for my taste. Ugh! 6y

I‘ve updated my #readthecandidates list again. https://docs.google.com/document/d/1n1MlsFqGoekjEeZe8XeN-qE9jGLFOL4UaYerlqfXCXg This is going to end up being an awful lot of books!

MicheleinPhilly I admire your commitment! I don‘t want to even think about 2020 until June at least. 6y

Look who just joined the 2020 race for President!

bookishkai SO not a surprise. I hope Hick can appeal on the national stage. Even my mother, who is really conservative, likes him. 6y
MelissaSue81 Oh! Didn‘t realize he had a book. Will have to add him to my list. I don‘t think I realized what I was getting into with #ReadTheCandidates. There are SO many and they almost all have at least one book! 6y

Pickpick

As a Coloradan who's lived thru the rise of his brewery in Lo-do, his mayoral initiatives, and his journey to being our governor, I really enjoyed this quick read. He is our quirky, awkward governor that we appreciate and reading this book gave me more insight into his early years as well as how he's made choices throughout his career.
