This is a funny story about friendship and imagination. If I were to use this in the classroom, I would follow up with a writing prompt about dream pets.

The illustrations in this book have a very whimsical, imaginative feel to them which compliments the narrative well. The pictures have a lot of details and you see something new every time you look at them. I enjoyed how some of the text is written in speech bubbles, because it makes the story easy to follow and engaging.

The book won a Caldecott Honor Medal in 2013. The book is about a distinguished boy who went to the zoo and decided to bring a penguin home with him. The penguin reminded him of himself. They both wear tuxedos. The boy does research on the penguin and learns how to take care of him.

I think this book would be a silly story to read students and I think it would make them laugh, I like the twist at the end where we see the dads pet
This book won the Caldecott award in 2013, it is a story about a boy and his fathers trip to the aquarium, the boy asks to buy a penguin and when he does the sales man thinks he means a stuffed animal, the boy takes the penguin home and we see him try to adjust everything to suit the penguin, the dad eventually finds out about the penguin and when you think he will be upset he reveals he also has a strange pet, a tortoise.
One Cool Friend by Toni buzzer was the Caldecott winner in 2013. This book is hilarious and unlike any other I have read! Students will adore this book
Mainly uses the colors black and blue to illustrate the pictures is the book. It is a book that has a good story line about friendship.
This book is a fun book to read to children if you talk about penguins, Antarctica, or being a good friend.
This story would be a great read aloud to incorporate into science. After reading this story, the students could think about their favorite animal, why they like it, some of the characteristics of that animal, and find the origin of the animal as well.

It was fun following along with their adventures. I think children would really love this book and would make them want to steal an animal home! I think the story had a good plot and development. I would love to have this book in my classroom, I also LOVE penguins.
