In an alternate London, a medium and a psychic have a meeting in a flat on Baker Street. They‘ve come to consult with Dr. John Watson and his famous friend. Not as clients. Watson and his wife Mary want them to assist with some of their more occult cases, though Sherlock is dubious.

I am a big fan of Mercedes Lackey, let me tell you, but this one is a major letdown. The Elemental Masters series started off with some great world-building and good characters. Now in addition to Elemental magic you also have psychic Talents, and she's thrown in werewolves, vampires and now sirens. There isn't really a great explanation for some of this, either, then she tossed in Sherlock Holmes and it's... It's a lot.

Next up is a return to Mercedes Lackey's Elemental Masters series with A Study in Sable which introduces John Watson (and judging from the cover, also Sherlock himself).

In other news:
✅ Applied for and am at interview stage for an ad sales job which I can do from home.
✅ This is very much a potential one but - we might be moving from the apartment to a house. With a dishwasher and in house laundry (thank the Lord!) so I'm stoked about it.

I don't like that Lackey decided to make Sherlock and Watson real people when there's such a rich history to draw on to create new characters. The plot is interesting and the characters are some old favorites. An entertaining read, even if it's not as good as her previous books in the series. 3.5/5
