Sweetness | Toni Morrison

Pickpick

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Brief but impactful. It is about a light skinned mother reflecting on her relationship with her dark skinned daughter. But also so much more - how the society and our own fears dictate how we treat others and try to shape the ones closest to us. It made me stop and think about what kind of mother I am as well as think back to some of my mother‘s actions.

Our first #blackhistorymonth #litereads pick, Sweetness by Toni Morrison, now has a review available! Thank you for your patience. Few Black History Month reading lists are complete without the late great Morrison, and while this story isn't necessarily a favourite of mine, it's still an interesting and important look at racism and colourism. Let me know in the comments section what you thought of the story.

Our first #litereads selection for #BlackHistoryMonth is Sweetness by Toni Morrison. Toni Morrison is an icon and no BHM is complete without acknowledging her impact on the world of literature. Sweetness deals with colourism by a mother towards her daughter and serves as a prelude to her novel God Help the Child. Links to the story through my full article below.
