Lackey, who has enchanted readers since the publication of her first novel, Arrows of the Queen in 1987, scores another hit with the paperback release of the first book in an exciting new series. High magic had been lost to Valdemar when he gave his life to save his kingdom from destruction by the dark sorceries. Now it falls to Elspeth Herald, heir to the throne, to take up the challenge and seek a mentor who will awaken her mage abilities.

Lots of beautiful things blossoming at the park! 😍🌿 Took a walk during my lunch break! 💕📚

Clare-Dragonfly How are you liking the book? Have you read any of the other Valdemar books? 4y
Branwen @Clare-Dragonfly It's definitely a different feeling reading it now versus when I read the series in high school! 🤣😂 But, I'm still really enjoying it and happy to report the magic is still there! 💕📚 4y
JazzFeathers Oh my goodness! It's been ages since last l heard about Valdemar 😂 l only read the first book, l think. As a teenager. Centuries ago 😂 4y
Branwen @JazzFeathers Right?! I think we all first encountered Valdemar in our younger years! 🤣😂 4y

Pickpick

This is a good book, I dislike the female main character, she‘s a brat, but the world building is excellent and the supporting characters are really awesome, especially Need, who it turns out is an ancient magician. When I get stressed I often go reread old books and this is a good reread.

bookishkai I keep meaning to do a reread of this series. 6y
iread2much @bookishkris it‘s still pretty good; I‘m enjoying the world building 🤗 6y
