I Lived on Butterfly Hill is a HF novel depicting a girl who is forced to abandon the only home she knew in Chile for a new life in Maine, USA. Winning the Pura Belpre award, this novel does an exceptional job at illustrating with words the hardships many had to endure during this time period. I would use this book for IR.

amandagrant http://spartacus-educational.com/COLDchile.htm This link contains background information on the Chilean military coup. Having students research these historical events and how they compared to the book would be a great extension opportunity.

Favorite covers #riotgrams. Sometimes it just takes a cover to catch your eye, but when it's a fascinating story -- bonus! #favoritecovers @bookriot @Liberty

This book was amazing in so many ways. I have already read it too many times to count and I still cry, laugh, and scream with the characters. It is by far one of my best reads and totally recommend it! The best part, it's based on he author's life as a girl, which makes this book so influential in more ways than I dare to count. Anyway, great read and I couldn't stop! Enjoy!

"Our souls can crumble when we don't care about our neighbors, or when we say hateful things about others, or exclude people for being different." It's quotes like this that make me want to read this book to my class this year. I hope the rest is okay for my age grouping!

Titania I love this! 8y

So one week before school back in session. I've got to prep for the year. Here's my first read.

P.LZelapony I have read this book more times than I dare to count and I must say this is one of the best books I have read! Read carefully, as there are many little clues and little quirks in this book that makes it one of a kind. 8y
youngreadrshelf @P.LZelapony thanks. I liked it. Just not sure it will be engaging enough for some of the boys in the class. 8y
