This was a really weird story, and I definitely didn't guess how it ended up. All the characters, even the detectives, have issues. I like Sophie Hannah's work but I haven't read this series in order. I definitely think I was missing something in the two detectives' backstory, but the primary mystery was a stand-alone, so that was fine.
This is my first Sophie Hannah and it was intriguing. However I think it would have made more sense to read the earlier books in the Waterhouse and Zailer series, because the relationship between the two of them is almost unbelievable. There is no sense, in this book, of either one being fond of the other. I had many questions. Some backstory might help me understand that better. The mystery on the whole was gripping and psychologically complex.
