Another holiday purchase for my next bedtime read. And yes I know I‘m reading these way out of order.

After an amateur production of a dramatisation of Anna of the Five Towns, Kate finds a body in a shop doorway and the lead actress goes into hiding and sends a fake ransom note to force her grandfather to give her her inheritance so she can go to RADA.
Good well-paced story which provides sympathy even for unsympathetic characters and skillfully avoids threatened toe-curling embarrassment for the reader.
2nd in series. I feel like I enjoyed the 1st one more. This one was a little bland and slow. Still a pick because it was good enough and I like mysteries and the 20s.
I enjoy reading "period mysteries" (I don't know if they're actually called that or if that's just what I think they are), and I also really enjoy books set in England. I look forward to reading more in the series. It is similar to the Maisie Dobbs series.
