Profound and enthralling. This book is a delicate dream, mixing its own internal mythology with a brutal tale of prejudice and human frailty. I cant recommend it enough. Tanzer is absolutely one to watch. Seanan McGuire, bestselling, award-winning author of In an Absent Dream Amityville baywoman Ellie West fishes by day and bootlegs moonshine by night. Oops. I was searching for something else at the library (don‘t remember what) and this came up in the search results. I thought it sounded like fun so I put it on hold. Today I took it out to start reading and noticed the “author of” a book with a suspiciously similar name on the cover. Sure enough, this is book 2 in a series. Why don‘t they just say that in the cover/subtitle? 🙄 Thankfully my library does have book 1 so I have it on hold now!

ravenlee That‘s always so frustrating! I need the pertinent information in the description and on the cover: what number this is in a series, series title, previous titles in said series! 10mo

Mehso-so

More demon summoning but without the Dorian Gray inspiration and hedonism. Liked the first one better - prohibition era is one of my least favorite settings.

Characters seemed hollow and the excerpt from the next book seemed even worse.

Settings Front cover is gorgeous but very little to do with the book. Imagining what they told the artist lol. "Mushrooms. Diabolism. Female lead. Moonshine." 5y

I love both! Lately I've taken to ebook way more. I can read with just some candles for light. As well as in the dark plus I can make the font as big as I want. I still love books of course and collect my favorites. I also always travel with at least one paperback. To me though a book is a book no matter the format. ☺ #muchlove #storyisastory #instagram #bookvsebook

Really enjoyed this creepy speculative fiction story! Sinister diabolists trying to take over Long Island in Prohibition-era, with a kickass bootleggin‘ main female character! Similar to the author‘s previous book, Creatures of Will and Temper!
