A 1935 novel on an Englishwoman by the name of Anna Kavan who leaves her husband in Burma, then a British colony. In London, a wealthy man proposes to keep her as a mistress, but she spurns him and moves to France. She falls in love with a divorced Englishman, but he is not interested in marriage and in the end Anna returns to her husband.
