Set in 1933, the book revolves around ex-cop Charlie Doherty, who is making a pretty good living as a private eye. When he‘s hired to look into an obvious suicide, he has no idea what he‘s signed up for. McCauley captures the spirit of Depression-era New York with its seedy gin mills and diverse cast of characters. As Charlie delves into the problem, he soon realizes there is much more at stake than he imagined. A great plot and a terrific read!
