It‘s 1957 and fifth grader Katy Gordon wants to play ball in the Little Leagues. She makes the cut, but can‘t play because “girls are not allowed.”

I absolutely loved this book. I loved how sexism and racism are addressed, how African American players (female and male) are brought into the story, and I loved how the story wraps up- believable but not saccharin.

Also, Neil Gaiman thinks the author is brilliant.
