Saw this in the bookstore tonight and would‘ve bought it but for the $45 price tag: a 2017 English translation of a deeply experimental work of fiction by a Taiwanese writer (published in Chinese in 1999). It‘s about a 1930 attack on the Japanese occupiers by an indigenous tribe in Taiwan, the Atayal, which resulted in 134 Japanese being slain by beheading. In retaliation, the Japanese forces nearly wiped the Ayatal people out of existence.
Booksnchill Tough to resist that looks and sounds deeply moving 7y
