I just finished reading this book and it was a great effort of the writer collecting her ancestors' materials such as scrapbook, pictures, letters and interviews the family members to make this book. It mixed up all the good, bad, happy, sad, tragic, memories of her family ever since then. I was touched on how her parents fight for their unblessed love at first untill they have the families' favor.

I've been asked to review this book for Eksentrika, from the author of Growing Up With Ghosts. Cassius (Sukhbir) gave me freedom to write in any chosen style I want to, and to give me an unlimited word count. I'm looking forward to writing beyond the constraints that I had to follow when reviewing for a newspaper.

A debut novel by a Malaysian author. Not listed so tagged another one of her books. I wanted to love this more than I did. It centers a straight female character, weaving in a narrative about a trans sex worker, & deals with desire, sexuality, & the anguish & challenges of motherhood. Stuff that's rarely seen in Malaysian literature. But I found the language clichéd at times & certain parts uninspired. Still, it's a challenging & necessary read.
