I really liked the play. It is raising the right questions about blame und justice. I think I am going to read this one with my class. And I am looking forward to see the play on stage at some point.

After telling the Güllener people her condition to save the small town (the death of her ex-lover) and being rejected, Claire Zachnassian‘s only reaction is “I am waiting.†No disappointment, no anger, no sadness, only certainty and assurance at the end of the first act. She is stronger than the whole lot of the citizens.
It‘s been a long time since I have read Dürrenmatt and I forgot about his subtle wit. The play is a social commentary on how to handle an immoral offer from the first gut rejection over denial to acceptance. I tremendously enjoyed the over the top character of the “old ladyâ€.

#SeasonsReadings16- #notinEnglish - I read this play in a German class and really enjoyed it.
