Loss of the Titanic: I Survived the Titanic
Loss of the Titanic: I Survived the Titanic | Lawrence Beesley
5 posts | 7 read | 4 to read
The Loss of the Titanic is the thrilling memoir of second class passenger Lawrence Beesley, who survived the sinking of the Titanic in lifeboat 13. Originally published in 1912, and long out of print in the UK, this classic book has been reset and now contains a wealth of contemporary photos and illustrations. This new edition is also endorsed by Beesley's family and includes a new introduction by his grandson, New York Times journalist Nicholas Wade.

Robin Gibb & his son RJ composed the Titanic Requiem for the 100th anniversary of the sinking. The song “Don‘t Cry Alone” is beautiful and haunting. #TuesdayTunes

The RMS Titanic struck an iceberg at 11:40 pm on April 14, 1912. She sank at 2:20 am on April 15, 1912. Survivor Lawrence Beesley wrote a memoir that I wish was required reading in schools. It includes important lessons that are relevant today. Beesley doesn‘t just look at those directly involved with the tragedy. He looks at society‘s involvement as well. ⬇️

Kerrbearlib I love this quote about a man he met on the Carpathia who recognized his indirect role in the sinking. The man had demanded faster travel for his own convenience and thrown fits when he didn‘t get it. Other travelers had done the same, thinking of their own convenience rather than the safety of others. Their collective selfish and impatience played an indirect role in the Titanic tragedy. 5d

David Warner was in the 1997 James Cameron Titanic. But I prefer him in the 1979 S.O.S. Titanic film where he played Lawrence Beesley.
