so-so

The story was light, which isn‘t typically my favorite thing (with some exceptions). I wanted more depth from this concept. I also had a difficult time believing Juneau would have adjusted so easily to new circumstances and I didn‘t care for the romance aspect, especially since the two characters lacked chemistry. Additionally, I‘d forgotten that it was a duology, so the cliffhanger ending only added to my frustration with the story.

This is another longstanding #MtTBR read- and one that I thought the title was appropriate for these strange times! Unfortunately, the cliffhanger really overshadowed the whole book- nothing is resolved here! The two narrators, Juneau and Miles, keep the story moving at a fast pace but I guess I‘m not hooked enough to continue on right now! Also, my favorite calendar must‘ve had some inside knowledge that March would be all about the #tigerking!🤣

I read this for the GR Apocalypse Whenever book club.The only reason I finished it was so I could discuss it. I really loathed this book.

An action adventure with narrative switching back and forth between two characters: our magic heroine, Juneau, brought up in Alaskan wilderness believing that WWIII wiped out most of the planet; and the insufferable rich Miles who drives a BMW and is about to get expelled from high school. I‘m done with YA.

bookishbitch Try the City of Ember series. I thought they were fantastic. Some YA is absolute shit. Not all of it though. I've read more good than bad. 6y

so-so

We never really got any resolution about the magic stuff and I just couldn't muster much interest in the characters. The romance didn't work for me. I hated how they kept talking about Juneau being so short but also 5'5". That's above average! It wasn't terrible, but I won't be picking up book two.

This book definitely does not have the best writing/storytelling in the world. But I love the apocalyptic themes (or feral child themes) and I'm really intrigued by Juneau's particular brand of magic, and why Miles' dad wants her. So I'm continuing.

But really—why are all the kids named after cities? 🙄
