Letters to Sartre | Simone de Beauvoir, Quintin Hoare

The only thing I've read by either of these Parisians is Simone de Beauvoir's A Very Easy Death. What should I read next by her or by Sartre?

Lcsmcat No Exit by Sartre was a favorite of mine in high school but I'm not sure how it plays to a non-angsty adult. Do you read French or are you looking for translations? 7y

Lcsmcat Mémoires d'une jeune fille rangée is a good one by de Beauvoir. I don't know what it's called in translation so I didn't recommend it until I knew you read French. 7y

batsy The Mandarins is the only fiction I've read by her so far. It was excellent and absorbing. Lots to ruminate on. A thinky book ☺️ 7y

Hobbinol When my partner and I met (37 years ago!) we bonded over a discussion about Sartre's Nausea! It's funny that book will always hold a special place in my heart😆❤️❗️Of course no exit holds the famous line: l'enfer c'est les autres. My partner-- who has read much more de Beauvoir than I have recommends her memoires (he is very proud of his first editions), and The Second Sex. And Sartre's Being and Nothingness is of course quite an undertaking. 7y
