Vacation book #4

Clwojick Oh my gosh! I totally forgot those candies existed! I used to eat those like crazy as a kid, but I haven‘t seen them in a couple decades. The strawberry ones were so good too. Over here drooling now. 😅 1y
Clwojick Just checked Amazon, and they‘re $18 for 3 rolls or $40 for a 6oz bag! Whyyyy. 😳😳😳 1y
LaurenAsh @Clwojick Right! I stumbled across them at a dollar store and grabbed a couple of packs, strawberry included. I can't believe they're so expensive on Amazon! 😫 1y
Clwojick I‘m going to be hounding all the weird hole-in-the-wall stores for them now! 😂 1y

I love Diane Ackerman's writing, and this was no exception. It's a very difficult memoir about the years after her husband's stroke and their struggle with his aphasia. Beautiful prose, and her description of their relationship is just wonderful.

"But who can say why two people become a couple, that small principality of mutual protection and regard?" I love this paragraph, and not just because my anniversary is coming up next week.

Thoroughly engrossing and ultimately satisfying. Love, loss, and the gentle spaces of nurturing in between.

I keep getting distracted by such beauty in Ackerman's writing, the brilliant turn of phrases, the romancing with words. Exactly what my soul needs right now: the power of gorgeous words magnified a hundredfold.

When your love is predicated upon words, and the words are gone, no more, what then? One Hundred Names For Love. Memoir. Heartbreak. This book will ruin me.

Taking the public transport does afford me more time to read. Silver lining, folks. And a Happy Lunar New Year to one and all.
