Looking at a high school girl coming to understand her sexuality in the midst of gay equal rights debates in the early 90s. A heavy read, especially comparing it to Australias marriage equality postal late last year.

This is an incredible book and this library copy has an incredibly shitty spine sticker. You can read my thoughts about it and how straight people are generally pretty bad at marketing straight stories on Book Riot: https://bookriot.com/2018/02/28/what-we-say-when-we-market-queer-stories/

ghosthost Thank you for making the connection between labeling and safety. I struggle to explain that tension to well-meaning allies. 7y

I absolutely inhaled this book! This coming-of-age story about a queer girl going through highschool in 90s Oregon is so beautiful and inspiring. It reminded me how lucky I was to grow up in Massachusetts, where marriage equality was passed while I was in high school. Such a lovely book, must read!!
