Book Cover Scavenger Hunt!
Find book covers that match the prompts. They can be from your own collection, from a bookstore or library, or from your e-book archive.
They are open to interpretation. For example ‘Orange‘ could mean an orange cover, the word orange, or the fruit orange.
15pts per cover found with a maximum of 465pts to earn. Post throughout October.
#HauntedShelf #GrimReaders Book Chain!
Teams create a chain or list of books where each book has something in common with the book before it, e.g.:
Interview with the Vampire by Anne Rice – Dracula by Bram Stoker (Has a vampire character) - The Invisible Man by H.G. Wells (Published 1897 same year as Dracula) – The Witch King by Martha Wells (Surname is Wells)
Post each book as a new comment to the game post. 10pts per book. Infinite points
I wanted to like this story of a family and a treasured heirloom‘s place in the family‘s history that stretched across centuries, generations and geography. But the way the story was told was meandering and disjointed, with multiple POVs that sometimes went off tangent or seemed superfluous to the narrative arc.
I have a list of recommendations based on scare factor to satisfy every reader.
🔪 Strange Magic by Syd Moore - I love this series - unlikely sleuths, a witch museum, light romance, & a lot of feminism
🔪🔪 The Girl on the Train by Paula Hawkins - unreliable narrator meets psychological thriller
🔪🔪🔪 Misery by Stephen King - psychological thriller with the dial turned up + the gore too
🔪🔪🔪🔪 NOS4A2 by Joe Hill - scariest book I‘ve ever read
Happy Friday, #GrimReaders! We still have a while until the #HauntedShelf starts, but I wanted to share my Team Lead Picks so you can start planning your October reading. Of course I chose books where Death is a character!
You‘ll get 15 bonus points for reading any of these, on top of whatever other points they count for.
Not my normal cup o‘ tea, but the plot ties to the American South and the enlightening look at the lesser known trades (pottery and whaling) of African slaves drew me onward. I mistakenly thought this a romance novel at the outset, but soon grasped the historical fiction supporting story arc underneath a sensitive narrative about generational trauma for black people coupled with personal tragedy and how that could shape lives.
